Frequently asked coffee questions

How much coffee should I put in my filter pot?

Per cup a good amount is 5-7 grams. One heaped teaspoon is around 5g of coffee. So for a 3 mug pot, a good about is 4 teaspoons.

Does South Africa grow coffee?

Yes, we have a few growers and roasters in South Africa. In fact, we aim to do the same thing as soon as we can.

What does single-origin mean

Single-origin coffee originates in a location rather than being a specific varietal of coffee. In Ethiopia, argued as the origin of coffee, an estimated 6,000 to 10,000 distinct, uncatalogued coffee varieties exist. So when there's speak of single-origin, we speak more about a small region where coffee is harvested.

Is Fair Trade coffee the best?

No. Great coffee has multiple processes that come together to produce great coffee. Fair Trade has a focus on the labour element of coffee but comes short when addressing farming practices, process and development of coffee as a product. We tie ourselves to coffee collaboratives who aim to improve all areas of coffee, from labour to yield to logistical elements so we can benefit from sustainably sourced and improved coffee.
